In much of the literature the interests of the organization are equated with the interests of its managers. 4 Presently we see academics becoming increasingly managed professionals (Rhoades 1998a), who are governed by central administrators and nonfaculty managerial professionals (Rhoades 1998b; Rhoades and Sporn 2002), ranging from technology transfer and chief information officers to university attorneys, who are increasingly central players in the academic enterprise.
